72-hour kit checklist
A three-day bag is food, water, and a few tools you can grab when you have to leave or sit through an outage. Most Amazon kits print calorie bars. Stored water is the line they miss.
FEMA tells households to store one gallon of water per person per day. Three days for one person is 3 gallons, about 11.4 liters. Two people need 6 gallons. Four people need 12. Pouch counts on this site almost never reach that. Treat the bag as a start and plan the water yourself.
What to put in the bag
- Water: 1 gallon per person per day, or a way to make more after the pouches run out.
- Calories: plan 2,000 per person per day. Three days for one person is 6,000 kcal.
- First aid
- Light
- Radio
- Whistle
- Poncho
- ID copies
Kits on this shelf that speak to that list
Ready America 70280 prints bars and pouches at the lowest price. Emergency Zone Urban adds ponchos, a tube tent, and a dynamo radio that can charge a phone. EVERLIT prints 7,200 kcal for two and a first-aid pouch with a tourniquet. None of those pouch counts meet the FEMA gallon line. The cells on each page stay honest about that.
